So much more than history

Birmingham Vikings also known as Dahrg de Belne offers much more than historical research and re-enactment of the Viking invasion period of English Heritage.

Our experimental archaeology to discover how the Vikings and the Saxons lived their lives in and around the 10th century has led to a strong educational team visiting schools, youth groups and museums. Skills and techniques learnt have been applied to other periods of time including modern day.

A professionally qualified teacher and NVQ assessor leads the team running courses ranging from  general interest to City and Guilds NVQ level. School visits are specifically designed to provide cross curriculum support to teaching staff, and are particularly useful for small groups of special needs children.

Outdoor public exhibitions demonstrate the many arts and crafts of our ancestors as well as spectacular combat displays using reproduction weapons. Since the groups formation in 1991members have devised and run many courses for children and adults providing life long learning in topics as diverse as calligraphy, textiles, leatherwork, small business set up, and information technology.
