Birmingham Vikings Theatrical Displays

Members of Birmingham Vikings combine the skills of theatre with arts and crafts with just a touch of martial arts to bring our audiences a flavour of life in tenth century England. We provide costumed re-enactors to demonstrate period arts and crafts along with combat displays of some of the devastating weaponry used by both Vikings and Saxons in an age of violence and turbulence that forged England as we now know it.

Before the Viking invasions the lands we now know as England were seven separate kingdoms (Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Essex, Kent, Sussex and Wessex) and the Viking raiders of the 9th century were able to conquer nearly all of them in about ten years.

Then came the great fight back as the Saxon king Alfred The Great and his descendants recaptured the Viking territory, and by the time of the Norman invasion of 1066 England was united under one leader.

The saga of Olaf Haroldson with his craft workers and protective warriors tells of heroic deeds as they work selling their goods and services to the Saxons and like the modern day SAS fight behind enemy lines to recapture lands from the Vikings.
