Arts in retirement

During 2001 two of our artists working in a Care Home for the elderly started an arts program to encourage residents to take up activities they missed out on in their younger lives.

The enthusiasm that the residents took to arts and crafts and the obvious benefit to their quality of life persuaded DAHRG that a project for the elderly similar to the "Saxon Arts & Crafts Project" for children should be considered. Following market research to show such a project would interest other care homes the group started to seek funds.

A few examples from the St Michaels Residents.
