Between
May 1997 and April 1999 the Birmingham Vikings ran a series of six events
designed to encourage children and young adults to participate in creative
crafts.
The majority of the events were held at Bells Farm, a restored Tudor II* listed building on the outskirts of Birmingham and one event held at Walsall Arboretum. Attendance at the Bells Farm events ranged between eighty and a hundred at each event, with several thousand visiting at the Walsall event.
The scheme was funded by the National Lottery through the Midlands Arts Council
with contributions from the local group and THE VIKINGS.
In addition to the tented encampment for young visitors and their parents, indoor adult training events were organized at Bells Farm for teachers, youth leaders and members from re-enactment groups.
